the collection

Pass the collection plate

This is a collection of events
You can subscribe to the tithe
Or I can offer you perspective

Pass the collection plate

This is a spiritual op-ed of trapped thoughts
Swing low, Sweet chariot
I’m trying to rescue you from blind eyes
John nine thirty nine
Mine eyes see so much pain

Pass the collection plate

How many events do we need to establish a pattern?
one two three one two three snap
one two three one two three snap
It’s a rhythm
It’s a flow
It’s a beat
A consistent culture

Pass the collection plate

Sitting in a waiting room of this purgatory of justice
I just want you to see me
But you never call my name
Say my name
I wait

Pass the collection plate
There’s not enough Band-Aids to cover up the pain
If it is painful to hear these events
Can you imagine the pain of living them?
Yes I am here to convict you
Yes I am here
To make you uncomfortable

Pass the collection plate
Follow the golden rule
“Treat others how you want to be treated”
But if I’m not included in “others” who is this rule for?
If life could be so simple
Contour lines
Crossing T’s
Dotting I’s
Staring eyes
I wonder

Pass the collection plate

Colors are not seen until I ask for representation
But every hue hungers for a view
That looks like YOU
I’m pleading to you!
Your palette is mute
Film developed in black and white
This grayscale of neutrality
But I’m living in color

Pass the collection plate

I’m passing it to you
Reader, what will you do with it?
